[+] ABOUT MERLIN
Merlin is an Old English Sheepdog. He is the pet of Sarah, the main character of the movie. Our furry friend here only gets a few moments of screen time at the very beginning of the movie, then is sent to the garage, but he is no doubt an important part of Sarah's life.
Merlin gets a sort of homage during the second half of the movie when Sarah meets up with the character Sir Didymus. Sir Didymus rides a dog named Ambrosius, who looks exactly like Merlin! An interesting point is that "Merlin Ambrosius" is the name of the wizard Merlin from the King Arthur legends. Please note that Merlin and Ambrosius are two different characters in the movie! Merlin is the actual dog from Sarah's real world, and Ambrosius is the "puppet" dog that Sarah meets in the Labyrinth.
The name of this fanlisting refers an early draft of the movie, in which Merlin plays a slightly more significant role. The script still begins with Sarah dressed up and pretending to be a noble lady. But instead of asking for a child to be returned, she acts coy and flirts with a prince, who the audience will discover is just Merlin with a tin-foil crown on his head. Hence, the title "Makeshift Prince."
